A FIRST REVIEW OF 1ST JUNE, 2007

The movement: A bloggers’ protest on everyone’s behalf.
The roots: The heartlessness, arbitrariness, irresponsibility of the Greek national Health System
The cause: http://fakellaki.blogspot.com/
The aim: For the State to take action
For doctors and patients to change attitude.

Here we are at the end of “The Day After”. We ALL TOGETHER achieved what we wanted, and much more. The biggest electronic movement that has ever taken place in Greece, on the 1st of June 2007, with the participation of thousands of citizens in every way, sent the message to every direction, loud and clear. They heard about us, even though we are not visible. There are no political parties, trade unions or big interests involved. We shouted the self-evident: human dignity.

56.116 visitors to fakellaki.blogspot on the 1st of June, more than 30 countries and 120 organisations sending and receiving more than 120.000 e-mails, the "Gia tin Amalia" videos on the top in youtube and google, thousands of bloggers dedicating the day to Amalia and more than 400.000 people looking in the search engines to find out what was going on. The rest is history.

We are watching.

Publicity will run its cycle, but the story doesn’t end here. The essential work of ALL OF US begins now, with everyone putting in their best. It will take time, these things don’t change easily.

But they do change.

We continue!
